South Africa remains the continent's fintech nerve centre. More venture capital flows into Johannesburg and Cape Town than any other African city pair, the regulatory environment is maturing fast, and the payments infrastructure is years ahead of most markets on the continent. That makes it the natural home for the conferences that matter most to founders, investors and operators building in African financial services.
Below is every fintech-relevant conference taking place in South Africa during the rest of 2026, ordered by date. Whether you're raising capital, scouting startups, selling into banks or trying to understand where the industry is headed — at least two or three of these should be on your calendar.

Fintech Summit Africa 2026
Now in its sixth year, Fintech Summit Africa has earned its status as the anchor event for financial technology on the continent — and the 2026 edition isn't messing around. The theme is "intelligent finance," with tracks covering agentic AI in banking, real-time payments, tokenisation, embedded finance, open banking and digital identity. Basically every major shift reshaping African fintech, in one room.
It also hosts a Startup World Cup regional qualifier, which makes it one of the few South African fintech conferences where early-stage founders can pitch to an international panel for a shot at a global final — and a $1 million prize pool. Not bad for a June conference in Sandton.
Why go: This is the most focused, pure-play fintech event in South Africa. If you're attending one conference this year and you're building or investing in African fintech, make it this one. The expo floor gives vendors direct access to bank innovation leads, and the sessions tend to be practitioner-led rather than academic.

Finnovex South Africa 2026
Finnovex runs regional chapters across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The South Africa edition — its 39th chapter — is themed around "Driving African Fintech Leadership: Innovation, Inclusion & Regulatory Evolution." It's a tightly curated, single-day format designed for C-suite and VP-level attendees rather than the broader startup crowd.
Why go: If you're a banking executive or a fintech founder selling into banks, the audience composition at Finnovex is hard to match. The smaller, more senior format means you're more likely to end up in a meaningful conversation with a decision-maker than at a larger expo. Less useful for early-stage founders who are still pre-product — but if you're in enterprise sales mode, the room-to-room ratio here is excellent.
Seamless Africa 2026
Seamless is a payments and digital commerce expo with a serious fintech strand. The 2026 edition is co-located with the new Accounting & Business Expo Africa, which broadens the audience to include finance leaders and business owners beyond the typical fintech crowd — which is either very useful or mildly irrelevant depending on what you're selling.
Speakers announced so far include the co-founder of the South African Fintech Association, digital assets leads from Absa and Standard Bank, and the Deputy Director of External Affairs from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. That's a meaningful signals-to-noise ratio for a conference of its size.
Why go: Seamless is the right room if you work in payment infrastructure — acquiring, issuing, switching, digital commerce or cross-border payments. The expo format is optimised for vendor–buyer meetings rather than thought leadership, so come ready to sell or buy rather than just learn. This isn't a watch-a-panel event. It's a work-the-floor event.

Wits Global Fintech Conference 2026
Hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand's Fintech Hub, this conference focuses on the research side of fintech — the part that doesn't have a booth on the expo floor but often predicts where the industry is heading five years out. The theme is "Shaping the Architecture of the Future Financial System," and the programme invites original research papers, case studies and presentations on areas like quantitative finance, behavioural economics and financial market microstructure.
Why go: This isn't a networking or deal-making event — let's be honest about that upfront. But if you're a policymaker, a fintech founder building in regulatory-heavy areas like credit scoring or insurance, or a researcher, the calibre of thinking here tends to be higher and more rigorous than anything you'll find at a commercial conference. It's also, quietly, a good place to find technical co-founders or research partners who actually understand the maths behind the product you're trying to build.
Africa Tech Festival 2026
Africa Tech Festival (formerly AfricaCom and AfricaTech) is the continent's largest technology gathering, full stop. Fintech is one of several tracks alongside telecoms, cloud infrastructure, AI and startups — it's not a pure fintech conference and it doesn't pretend to be. But the scale is enormous (the 2025 edition drew 15,000+ attendees), and it attracts a mix of corporate, startup and government audiences that you simply won't find in the same building at any other African event.
Why go: If you're only attending pure-play fintech events, you're missing the cross-pollination that happens at a generalist tech festival. Investor forums and startup pitch stages run concurrently with the enterprise tracks — founders can pitch in the morning and meet a telco partnership lead in the afternoon. The expo floor is free. And Cape Town in November is, frankly, a draw in itself.

SuperReturn Africa 2026
SuperReturn is a private equity and venture capital conference — not a fintech event in the traditional sense. But if you're a fintech founder at Series A or beyond and actively raising, or if you're a fund manager allocating to African fintech, this is where the real capital conversations happen.
The audience is heavily institutional: pension funds, development finance institutions, fund-of-funds and family offices. Conversations here are about fund structures, exits, portfolio construction and co-investment — not product demos. Nobody is asking to see your deck in the morning session.
Why go: This is the event for capital allocators. If you're a growth-stage fintech founder, being in the room (or at the fringe events — which are often where the best conversations happen) gives you access to the LPs behind the VCs. That's a different and often more valuable conversation than a standard pitch meeting, and it's the kind of relationship that takes years to build through normal channels.

AfricArena Grand Summit 2026
AfricArena runs regional pitch tours throughout the year — Dakar, Nairobi, Lagos, Cairo — and the Grand Summit in Cape Town is the year-end finale where the finalists from every regional stop compete in front of an international investor panel. Fifty-plus startups, seed through Series B, judges from global VC funds. Fintech founders have historically performed well in the competition.
Why go: If you're a fundraising-stage founder, this is the closest thing to a competitive demo day at continental scale. The selection process means the startups on stage are pre-vetted, which also makes it unusually efficient for investors. The timing — December in Cape Town, overlapping with SuperReturn — means investor density in the city that week is unusually high. Book your accommodation early. Seriously.
